Sony working on Playstation branded Honeycomb tablet

Sony will soon join the tablet race. Rumor has it that the company is planning to unveil an Android (Honeycomb) PlayStation-branded tablet codenamed S1.

According to Engadget, the tablet has a “wrap” design which resembles an open paperback stuffed into the back pocket, or a magazine folded backward upon it such that only a single page is visible to read.

A design will give the tablet’s display enough angles to comfortably touch-type when placed on a table. It also makes one-handed operation easier.

Other expected features:

–                Rotating screen UI, allowing for right- or left-handed use.

–                9.4-inch capacitive touch panel

–                1280 x 800 pixel resolution

–                Tegra 2 processor

–                Ront- and rear-facing cameras

–                USB-A port

–                Only physical buttons — volume and on / off — located on the edge of each indented side.

–                “Q” (for Qriocity service) button

–                IR port built-in to control devices other than Bravia TV.

–                Front face finished in a high-gloss black

–                Underside is a matte-silver color creating a nice contrast.

The target price for the WiFi-only version of the S1 is expected to be around $599 (a $100 premium) whereas the shipment is likely to begin in September.
