Five of the top magazine publishers are getting ready to launch a magazine app store for Android. Next Issue Media, which was formed about a year back consists Time Inc., Condé Nast, Hearst Corp., Meredith Corp. and New Corp.

NIM will go live with two titles first, later adding others.  NIM’s online store will only be accessible on tablets powered by Google’s Android operating system, later coming to other operating systems.

“Android gives us more flexibility from a development and distribution perspective at launch,” Morgan Guenther, NIM’s chief executive, said.

Guenther also added that NIM will distinguish itself by having lots of magazine content, along with related games and video.
