Android One reaches Turkey, finally gets upgraded specs-sheet

General Mobile 4G Android One phoneGoogle has announced the arrival of the Android One program in Turkey, making it the first market outside Asia to get a taste of the company’s affordable Android initiative.

The Turkish launch of the Android One is not only important because of the expansion outside Asia, but also because the first Android One smartphone to be released in the country packs better specifications than all other Android One phones so far (each of which has the same specs), including 4G support.

Google has partnered with General Mobile, a local smartphone vendor, for the Android One smartphone, which is releasing the simply-named General Mobile 4G smartphone.

According to the company, General Mobile 4G features a 5-inch HD IPS display with Gorilla Glass 4, 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. The phone also packs 2500 mAh battery, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, microSD card slot, 4G LTE support and the usual set of connectivity options.

In addition, the General Mobile 4G comes with 13MP primary camera with dual-LED flash and 5MP front shooter.

The phone has been priced at 699 Turkish Lira ($260) and will be released in Black and White colour options. Although the pricing of the smartphone sounds too much, but the mobile devices are typically priced higher in Turkey than most markets.

“Our goal with Android One is to empower more people to do great things with the Internet by putting a high-quality, up-to-date smartphone into their hands. Turkish creativity and innovation are already exciting, so we can’t wait to see what people do with Android One,” said Caesar Sengupta, VP, Product Management, Android One.
