Android 5.1.1 debuts in AOSP, factory image available for Nexus Player

Android 5.0 LollipopWithin weeks of the releasing the version 5.1 of Android, Google has rolled-out Android 5.1.1. As you can expect with a small increase in the version number, it is merely a bug-fixing update.

Although like most minor Android upgrades, Google has not officially detailed the new version, but the release in AOSP on Tuesday marked its arrival.

Device manufacturers and custom ROM developers can now head over to Android source and start preparing the version of the devices they maintain. The tag for this release is 5.1.1_r1, and it carries the build number LMY47V.

According to folks at Android Police, who took a look the complete developer change-log of the update, Android 5.1.1 brings tweaks of select core OS functions, security fixes, and improvements to media decoding and handling. Among the device-specific fixes, the camera time-out on Nexus 5 has been fixed and the updated Android version can better handle the recent Chromecast feature of supporting TV remote controls using HDMI-CEC.

Google is yet to start the OTA roll-out of Android 5.1.1, but it has published the factory images based on the new Android version for at least one Nexus device – the Asus-made Nexus Player.
