Lava Icon with 5-inch HD display debuts in India; priced at INR 11,990

Lava IconIndian smartphone vendor Lava International on Thursday introduced the new Icon smartphone in the country. Priced at INR 11,990 (MOP: INR 11,499), the new smartphone will go on sale beginning April 9 at Snapdeal.com as well as select physical retailers.

According to Lava, instead of being an OEM designed product, which is common with Indian smartphone vendors, the Icon has been completely designed at the company’s China R&D centre. The smartphone sports a premium design with just 7.7mm thickness and comes with a 5-inch IPS HD display, 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 2GB of RAM and 2500 mAh battery.

The Lava Icon also features 16GB of internal storage, dual-SIM support, 13MP f2.0 rear camera, 5MP f2.4 front shooter and the usual set of connectivity options including 3G.

On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 4.4 and packs the company’s new Star OS. This new UX layer from Lava brings gesture support and other tweaks to the phone. There is no word on the Lollipop update.

“In line with our constant endeavor to offer products with great value to the consumers, we are delighted to announce the launch of our new premium smartphone – Icon. This is a beautifully designed product with high quality camera featuring Sony Exmor sensor and other built-in features. This marks the beginning of a new segment for Lava smartphones wherein we will be coming up with a new range of experience driven devices,” said Navin Chawla, Vice President & Head Product, Lava International.

  1. Hi I’m looking to buy a new phone and my
budget is 15K. A couple of my friends are using lava devices and even though
I’ve always been a big brand freak, I gotta admit that LAVA packs quite a
punch and at low cost. So I did some digging and found out that ICON is
releasing soon. Cn anyone tell me how good is it. Like I know the specs are
crazy great but still need some advice. HELP!!
