Android Lollipop has continued to gain market share and the latest platform versions data from Google reveals that Android 5.1 and 5.0 are now present on 5.4 percent of the total active Android devices. Although Lollipop is still behind Jelly Bean, ICS and Gingerbread in the terms of the market share, we expect it to quickly take over at least two of these versions – ICS and Gingerbread. Also, Android L has no imminent threat from a newer Android version, as Android M release is not expected before Q4 of this year.
Among other Android versions, KitKat has also increased its market share since March and the version is now present on 41.4 percent devices, followed by Jelly Bean with 40.7 percent share and Gingerbread with 6.4 percent. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is loaded on 5.7 percent devices and Froyo on 0.4 percent.
There aren’t any surprises in latest platform version data and Lollipop is likely to grow quickly as Android vendors update more and more KitKat devices to Android 5.0 & 5.1 in the coming months.
