Xiaomi on Thursday introduced the Redmi 2 smartphone for the Indian market at a press event in New Delhi. The smartphone has been priced at INR 6,999 and the first weekly flash sale for the phone has been scheduled for March 24 at Flipkart. The registrations of the first flash sale begin later today.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 is a dual-SIM smartphone and both SIM card slots supports 4G LTE and 3G connectivity. The smartphone also comes with 4.7-inch 720p HD IPS display with Dragontrail glass, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The phone runs on Android 4.4 with MIUI 6.
In addition, the smartphone packs 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 2200 mAh battery, and USB OTG support. On the imaging front, Xiaomi has included 8MP f2.2 rear camera with BSI sensor, 28mm lens and LED flash as well as a 2MP front shooter.
The Redmi 2 will be competing with the upcoming Moto E (2nd Gen) 4G model (arriving in May), Lenovo A6000, and Asus Zenfone C smartphones in India. According to the company, the smartphone will go on sale in White and Grey colours.
Xiaomi has also stated that the Redmi 2 will be available via Airtel stores as well in 4G markets, but in the coming weeks. There is no fixed date available at this point. In addition, the company revealed that the enhanced version of Redmi 2, which was launched in China with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, will reach India as well in the coming months.
