As expected, Asus has begun the global roll-out of the Zenfone 2 smartphone with the launch in its home-market Taiwan. The smartphone line-up is now on sale in the country via telecom operators like Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, FarEasTone Telecommunications, and Vibo Telecom, as well as online at the ASUS Store, Yahoo and PChome.
As a part of the Zenfone 2-series, the company is currently offering Zenfone 2 ZE551ML, Zenfone 2 ZE550ML and ZE500CL smartphones, which have been priced at NT$6,990 (2GB/ 32GB), NT$5,990 (2GB/ 16GB) and NT$4,990 (2GB/ 16GB) respectively. The 4GB RAM variant of the ZE551ML has been priced at NT$8,999, but doesn’t seem to be on sale right now.
“The ZenFone 2 series will build on the resounding success of the ZenFone. ZenFone 2 embodies every aspect of the ASUS brand spirit—In Search Of Incredible—and we look forward to introducing this empowering luxury worldwide with upcoming launch events in China, Hong Kong, France, Russia, Japan, Indonesia, India, and the United States,” said ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih at a press event in Taipei.
According to Asus, ZenFone 2 smartphones will reach China, Hong Kong, Singapore and France in March, India, Italy and other Southeast Asia markets in April and Brazil in June.
To remind you, Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML packs 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3560 quad-core 64-bit processor, 5.5-inch 1280x720p display, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the ZE551ML variant features 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core 64-bit processor, 1920x1080p display, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. Other specifications of the smartphones include 13MP rear camera, 5MP front shooter, 3000 mAh battery, dual-SIM support, microSD card slot and 4G LTE connectivity.
Lastly, the Zenfone 2 ZE500CL comes with 5-inch 720p HD IPS display, 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor, 2GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera, and 2MP front shooter. Among other specifications, the phone includes 2500 mAh battery, 4G LTE support, 16GB of internal storage, microSD card slot and Android 5.0.
I just hope that Asus can hold these prices in India. I doubt that they will though, but here’s hoping for it anyways. 🙂
P.S. – For the uninitiated, 1NT$ (New Taiwan Dollar) = 2 INR exactly.
