NVIDIA introduces Shield Android TV set-top box with Tegra X1 at core

NVIDIA Shield Android TV boxAt the ongoing Game Developers Conference (GDC), NVIDIA has introduced the new Shield Android TV set-top box, which is being targeted to the gaming and video streaming enthusiasts. It will be available in early May for $199 with bundled controller. It is the third Shield-branded device from NVIDIA after the handheld console and Android tablet.

“Today we are introducing NVIDIA’s first living room entertainment device. We’ve been working on the technologies we’re talking about today for more than five years. Now, with Shield, you can bring it all together in a device that lives near the best screen in your house,” said Jen-Hsun Huang at the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco.

According to NVIDIA, Shield box will be powered by the company’s Tegra X1 processor. It will not only be able to play the controller-optimized Android games, but also run the company’s game-streaming service Grid, which officially launches as a paid service along with the set-top box in May and will offer PC games running in the company’s cloud.

NVIDIA has stated that Stream set-top box will be capable of handling 4K videos at 60fps, making it the only set-top box with so much power.

In addition to the games, you will obviously have access to all the Android TV features like apps, videos, and music. It will also support Google cast, thus allowing you to stream content from your smartphone or PC to Shield.NVIDIA Shield Android TV box
