As you might remember, we recently told you about the existence of the 5-inch Asus Zenfone 2 smartphone. Now, the full specifications of the phone have been revealed along with a likely release date for the Taiwanese market.
According to a report in Sogi Taiwan, the Intel-powered 5-inch version of Asus Zenfone 2 carries the model number ZE500CL and will feature a 720p HD IPS display. It will also come with 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 2500 mAh battery and 16GB of internal storage. The phone will run on Android 5.0 with Zen UI and pack microSD card slot, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front shooter and 4G LTE support.
As you can see, most of these specifications are same as the existing Zenfone 5, but Asus has upgraded the OS and battery in the ZE500CL.
Sogi notes that Zenfone 2 ZE500CL will most likely join the 5.5-inch Zenfone 2 ZE551ML, which the latter goes on sale in Taiwan on March 9. There is no word on price and we are still waiting for an official announcement, which we expect will be made at the Mobile World Congress in early-March.
This may only be the Taiwan SKU, but it doesn’t have have support for the 2.3Ghz band as would appear from the chart. Meaning no support for Reliance Jio’s TDD services in the 8 circles where they don’t have spectrum in the 1.8Ghz band for FDD services.

Likely, as Asus is still thinking of India as a mainly 3G market (which is true), so I don’t see them introducing a different SKU in the country. Should become more clear when they make the official announcement.

This is nothing but a little bit of good old fashioned brand engineering from Asus. The ZE500CL model is basically the same Zenfone 5 model that was originally introduced at last year, ‘enhanced’ with LTE connectivity and Lollipop. Looks like Asus is taking a leaf out of Samsung’s gadget spamming book unfortunately.
The real new lower end variant is the ZE550ML with the new Moorefield Socs (Z3530 and Z3560 for the lower-end and Z3560 and Z3580 for the higher end 1080p 4GB variant).
