As expected, Indian smartphone vendor Lava on Friday introduced the new iris X8 smartphone to take on Micromax-backed Yu Televentures’ Yureka. The iris X8 has been priced at INR 8,999 and will go on sale beginning February 9.

According to Lava, the phone will be sold at all major brick-and-mortar retailers in the country, however online, it will be only available at Flipkart.com.

Coming to the specifics, Lava iris X8 sports a 5-inch 720p HD IPS display and is powered by 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592M processor. The phone also packs 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, microSD card slot and dual-SIM support. On the imaging front, Lava has included an 8MP rear camera and 3MP front shooter in the smartphone. In addition, the phone runs on Android 4.4 and comes with Smart wake-up, gesture controls and Smart SIM-swap support. The company has also promised to provide Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the phone.
