Samsung introduces a Galaxy Note 4 variant with up to 300Mbps download speeds

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 S-LTESamsung on Monday introduced a new variant of Galaxy Note 4 in its home market South Korea. Dubbed as Samsung Galaxy Note 4 LTE-A or Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE, it is the first commercially available LTE Advanced (LTE-A) Tri-Band Carrier Aggregation (CA) smartphone, with download speeds up to 300 Mbps.

“The LTE-A Tri-Band CA smartphone is a meaningful advancement in mobile and telecommunications technologies, and demonstrates Samsung’s long-term commitment to providing innovation within the telecommunications industry. We continue to set new challenges for the industry and push boundaries to take mobile technology to the next level and deliver the best possible customer experience,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.

The phone sports the same specifications as the normal 4G Galaxy Note 4 apart from the faster network support and new Snapdragon 810 processor. It will be released on SK Telecom in the country, which launched its Tri-band LTE-A Service on Sunday.

Tri-band LTE-A service offers data speeds of up to 300Mbps by aggregating three component carriers in three different frequency bands: 20MHz bandwidth in 1.8GHz band, 10MHz bandwidth in 800MHz band, and 10MHz bandwidth in 2.1GHz band. At its peak speed, Tri-band LTE-A service allows users to download a 1GB movie in only 28 seconds.

There is no word on the pricing at this point and the phone will be available to a limited set of consumers initially.
