Within 35 days of its release on Flipkart in India, dual-screen Yota Phone has seen the first price-cut and it is big. The phone is now retailing for INR 17,999 in the country, down 23.4 percent or INR 5,500 from the original price of INR 23,499.
Clearly, the phone hasn’t seen much uptake from the Indian consumers and Flipkart hopes that the reduced price will be able to entice more consumers to purchase the smartphone.
To remind you, Yota Phone sports two displays – one normal 4.3-inch LCD on the front and second 4.3-inch e-ink display on the back. The e-ink panel can be used for a number of tasks by the users including reading e-books, however only select apps are supported to make use of this display.
Other specifications of the phone include 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, Android 4.2.2, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 13MP rear camera, 1MP front shooter and 1800 mAh battery. The LCD panel sports 720p HD resolution, however the e-ink panel comes with 640x360p resolution.
In related news, Yota Phone 2 is expected to be launched at a press event on December 3 in London. Although the phone was originally showcased at MWC 2014, it is yet to be released to public. We hope to hear about the pricing and release details at the event.
