ZTE launches Grand S II in India, goes on sale next week

ZTE Grand S II LTEChinese device maker ZTE on Tuesday unveiled its Grand S II smartphone in India. The smartphone is scheduled to go on sale on November 24 in the country, however the company has not revealed the pricing at this point, which will be shared closer to the release.

Originally introduced at CES 2014 in January this year, ZTE Grand II is a high-end smartphone and comes with a 5.5-inch full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, and 13MP rear camera. The phone runs on Android 4.2.2 and there is no word on whether ZTE plans to update it to Android 4.4 or 5.0. In addition, ZTE has included 5MP front shooter, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and microSD card slot in the Grand S II.

On the software front, ZTE has added voice-control technology on the phone, which will allow the consumers to unlock the phone, snap a photo, listen to messages or play music via voice commands.

Given the outdated OS in the phone and limited brand-recognition for the company in the country, ZTE will have to go really aggressive with the pricing if it wants the phone to succeed. To remind you, it is sold for 1699 yuan (around INR 16,400) in China.

In related news, ZTE has revealed it also plans to launch the Nubia N7 mini smartphone in the country in January next year.

    • I am not sure. The problem with some of the companies is that they never really provide detailed specifications nor put them up on their website. So, until the phone arrives in the market, I can’t be certain about the specifications.
When ZTE originally showcased Grand S II at CES, it included Snapdragon 800, Android 4.3, 2MP front camera, and 3100 mAh battery. Since then, the company seems to have released a variant of Grand S II with Snapdragon 801, 2MP rear camera and 3100 mAh battery, while the version launched in India is said to feature 5MP front camera, 2500 mAh battery and Android 4.2.2.
On the processor front, the only thing is certin that it is 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm – not sure whether it is 800 or 801.
