Fire TV Stick our most successful device launch ever, says Amazon

Amazon Fire TV Stick with RemoteAmazon has announced that the recently unveiled Fire TV Stick has become the fastest selling Amazon device ever. A competitor to Google’s Chromecast, this media dongle from Amazon allows the consumers to access online videos, music, apps, games, photos and more on their HDTVs.

Fire TV Stick was originally unveiled on October 27 and went on pre-order the same day. The consumer response seems to have been phenomenal for the device.

“Fire TV Stick has been our most successful device launch ever. We built a ton of these, but customer demand still outpaced our supply. We’re excited by the overwhelming customer response and the team is working hard to build more as quickly as possible,” said Dave Limp, Senior Vice President, Amazon Devices.

Amazon has also revealed that as promised, the Fire TV Stick starts shipping today and will reach the pre-order consumers in the coming days. If you haven’t ordered the device until now, you can head over to Amazon now to place an order, however the shipping will start on Jan 15. 2015 for the fresh orders. To remind you, Fire TV Stick carries a price-tag of $39.

Fire TV Remote app arrives in Google Play

Just in time for the Fire TV Stick shipments, Amazon has released the Fire TV Remote app in Google Play. The app will allow the Fire TV Stick users to control the device directly from their Android smartphone. It includes a keyboard for text entry to the Fire TV Stick, voice search support, playback controls, navigation buttons and more.

While at this point, the app only supports Fire TV Stick, but Amazon is working to make it compatible with Fire TV set-top box too. The update with set-top box support is expected on November 26.
