Google has announced that it is all set to release an updated version of Search app for Android. The upcoming version will bring the Material Design changes as well as couple of new features including the third-party app search support.
Google noted that the with Material Design changes, the Search app will include bold colors, fluid animations and simplified layouts in results page. The search giant also notes that the updated version of the app will allow select smartphone owners to say “Ok Google” and initiate a search even when the screen is off and the phone is unplugged. This feature will be initially available only on Nexus, Nexus 9 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
Among other changes, Google Now will now even more aggressively suggest event reminders from Gmail.
“For those times you’ve gotten an email about something but forgotten to follow up, Google can now catch potential plans buried in your Gmail: it’ll prompt you to add them to your calendar then serve up reminders, so you can stay on top of staying in touch,” wrote Anantica Singh, Product Manager Search at Google, in a blog post.
In addition, Google has stated that the recently announced third-party app search feature is also being enabled in the upcoming version of the Search app for Android. It is however important to note here that the feature will only work in app, which has impended the necessary code-level changes.
There is no word on when the updated version will reach Google Play, but we don’t expect the wait to be much longer.
