Motorola’s India smartphone sales rise to 1.6 million units

Moto E in IndiaIndia e-retailer Flipkart, which exclusively sells Motorola smartphones in the country, revealed on Friday that it has sold 1.6 million units of Motorola smartphones since the company re-entered India earlier this year. The retailer did not share break-up of the sales numbers but it did say that Moto E has been the fastest selling smartphone from Motorola in the country.

The sales numbers are expected see a steep growth this month and in the next quarter as the new Motorola smartphones reach Indian shores.

Chicago-based Motorola yesterday announced the launch of Moto G (2nd Gen) in the country and also showcased the new Moto X and Moto 360 devices. While the new Moto G went on sale earlier today, the Moto X (2nd Gen) will be available later this month along with Moto 360.

The company also stated that it is ready for the sales rush this time and the consumers won’t see quick sell-out times. As per our calculation of import data from Zauba.com, more than 140,000 units of the new Moto G were imported to India until September 2.  Motorola has imported the same number of the original Moto G units in one month when it originally stated India operation this year, clearly showing that it has learnt its lesson.

To remind you, Motorola currently sells three smartphones in India – Moto E, Moto X and the new Moto G. The first-generation Moto G has seemingly been discontinued but we could see its return at the reduced price from the company as it clears the remaining inventory in other markets.
