Xiaomi to enter Indonesia next, makes website live

Xiaomi IndonesiaAfter a number of teasers and cryptic cues, Xiaomi on Thursday announced that it is entering the Indonesian market next. It will be the eight market for the Chinese smartphone market after China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and India.

The company has launched the Indonesia website, which is barebones right now but is expected to be filled with upcoming devices in the coming weeks. Xiaomi is expected to officially unveil the first devices for the market in the coming days. It is likely that the company will release Mi 3 as the first smartphone, followed by Redmi/ Redmi 1S and Redmi Note.

As per reports, Xiaomi will be partnering with an e-retailer in the country to retail its devices. The Xiaomi devices will reportedly be more expensive in Indonesia because of the VAT and prepaid income tax, however the prices will still be better than competing smartphones.

To remind you, Xiaomi had earlier stated that it plans to enter 10 countries in 2014, out of which it has already started its operations in four countries. The other six countries are Thailand, Vietnam, Russia, Turkey, Brazil and Mexico.
