Folks at HTC India should write a book on “How to kill a successful smartphone launch.” We have often seen the company’s Indian arm messing up a device launch in some or the other way. The latest incident is regarding the release of HTC Desire 816.
Unveiled in the country on April 21, the HTC Desire 816 was supposed to go on sale in the first week of May but after almost a mong-long wait, the phone is finally available at one e-retailer (Infibeam) and others are expected to get the stock over the next few days.
HTC Desire 816 might not be a Moto G or HTC One M8 but it is certainly a decent mid-range phablet with a nice-enough pricing, something which is not normally seen with HTC. I have personal seen a number of the consumers waiting for the phone over the last few days, confused about when exactly the phone is going on sale. It is likely that some of these consumers would have already gone ahead and purchased other smartphones.
Anyways, coming to the availability of Desire 816, the phone is currently being sold at Infibeam for INR 24,450, which actually INR 500 higher than the official price-tag of INR 23,999. We will suggest you to wait for a week for expanded availability or pre-order it from the likes of The Mobile Store at INR 23,029, which is expected to ship it starting May 30. You can also check out the nearby brick and mortar stores as they would also have started getting the Desire 816 stock.
To remind you, HTC Desire 816 comes with a 5.5-inch 720p HD display, 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 5MP front camera and 13MP rear camera. The phone runs on Android 4.4.2 and includes 2600 mAh battery, 8GB of internal storage, and microSD card slot.
