Qualcomm unveils 64-bit Snapdragon 810 and 808 processors

Qualcomm Snapdragon 810Qualcomm today announced two new Snapdragon processors – 810 and 808. Based on 64-bit architecture, the new processors are designed to offer better performance than the present offerings.  Other 64-bit processor announced by the company till date are Snapdragon 410, 610 and 615.

The new Snapdragon 810 and 808 processors are expected to be available as a part of publically retailed devices in first half of 2015.

“The announcement of the Snapdragon 810 and 808 processors underscore Qualcomm Technologies’ continued commitment to technology leadership and a time-to-market advantage for our customers for premium tier 64-bit LTE-enabled smartphones and tablets,” said Murthy Renduchintala, executive vice president, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and co-president, QCT.

Built at 20nm process, the Snapdragon 810 SoC comes with 4 ARM Cortex A57 cores + 4 ARM Cortex A53 cores in Big.LITTLE design with Adreno 430 GPU. On the other hand, Snapdragon 805 packs 2 ARM Cortex A57 cores and 4 ARM Cortex A53 cores in Big.LITTLE design with Adreno 418 GPU. All cores can be simultaneously operated in both processors.  According to Qualcomm, the Adreno 418 is 20 percent faster than the Adreno 330, and the Adreno 430 is 30 percent faster than the Adreno 420 in graphics performance.

  • Frame buffer compression and external 4K display support via HDMI1.4
  • Support for Bluetooth 4.1, USB 3.0, NFC and the latest Qualcomm IZat location core for ubiquitous and highly accurate location services
