LG introduces G Watch, first smartwatch running on Android Wear
With the announcement of Android Wear, LG has also revealed that it will be releasing LG G Watch in partnership with Google. G Watch is like the Nexus counterpart of smartwatch products.
Running on Android Wear, the smartwatch will support all the features that we have listed in this post like Google Now integration and rich notifications support.
“With the LG G Watch, LG is continuing the milestones we’ve set in wearables following in the foot-steps of the world’s first 3G Touch Watch Phone in 2009 and the Prada Link in 2008. We’re confident that a well-designed device has the potential to take the smart wearable market by storm.” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
According to LG, it wants G Watch to act as a “low barrier to entry” for developers, so it will probably be more of a limited availability device.
There is no word on specifications or pricing right now, which will be shared in the coming months, however if previously rumoured details are correct, G Watch will come with 1.65-inch IPS LCD (280x280p), 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. It will go on sale in the second quarter of 2014.
