In addition to the new Galaxy S5 smartphone, Samsung has unveiled the new Gear wearable devices in India today. The new Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit will go on sale alongside Galaxy S5 on April 11.
“Samsung next generation of wearable devices were developed to redefine the way we live and to maximize our fulfilment of life. Our Gear portfolio continues to expand with unique devices designed for extended connectivity features, stylish customization options and a robust application ecosystem. These devices, especially the new Gear Fit, help consumers striving to live fit and active lives, without sacrificing their own personal style or their ability, to stay connected on the go,” said Vineet Taneja, Country Head, IT & Mobile Division at Samsung India.
Coming to the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo details, these second-generation smartwatches are essentially companion devices for Galaxy smartphones. Once paired with a Galaxy smartphone, the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo will allow consumers to accept or ignore incoming calls, messages, and provide instant notifications based on a user’s activity and habits. Samsung has embedded IrLED sensor, which can be used to control household appliances via WatchON Remote application.
On the software front, the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches are powered by Tizen and can run a host of applications, which are available via Samsung store.
Coming to Gear Fit, this wearable from Samsung features a band like form factor but mirrors most of Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo features. It can also be used as a standalone device, which will provide fitness specific information and other details like time, date etc.
Pricing
Samsung Gear 2 has been priced at INR 21,900, while both Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit will carry a price-tag of INR 15,900 each.
