Amazon’s video streaming device is being announced next week

Amazon inviteAccording to Re/Code, Amazon is all set to announce its video-streaming device next week. The company has also started sending out invites for a press event, where it plans to update the media about its video business. This invite might not directly reveal the company’s video-streaming device plans but the whole popcorn and couch image certainly hints in that direction.

The Re/Code report and the Amazon press invite also line-up nicely with the previous reports that suggested that e-retail giant will launch its video streaming device in early-April.

According to the information available until now, Amazon is opting for a Chromecast like form factor for this device, which might also work as a casual gaming console. Images of the controller for this console were leaked online recently.

The Amazon video-streaming device, which might be dubbed as Firetube, will run on Fire OS, the forked version of Android used by the company in its Kindle Fire tablets. This device will not only support streaming of content from Amazon Instant Video but also allow the consumers to install third-party apps to access other streaming services.

The device will compete with the likes of Apple TV, Chromecast and Roku.
