Along with the new Galaxy S5 smartphone, Samsung has introduced the new Gear Fit wearable device. Unlike Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, it features a form-factor more similar to fitness trackers that we have seen so far but with more features and slightly bigger display.

In response, our Gear product portfolio continues to expand with unique devices for a wide range of lifestyles, including the new Gear Fit designed to help those consumers striving to live more fit and active lives without sacrificing their own personal style or their ability to stay connected on the go,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics.
Samsung Gear Fit comes with a 1.84-inch Curved Super AMOLED display and packs pedometer, heart rate monitor, and can provide real time fitness details. It can work both as a standalone device and a companion device. It will also let you check for notifications from Galaxy smartphones such as incoming calls, emails, SMS, alarm, S-planner, 3rd party apps etc. As there is no camera, microphone, or speaker on Fit, so you cannot take calls or snaps images directly from the device, which is possible on Gear 2.
According to Samsung, Gear Fit comes with changeable straps, which will be available in Black, Orange and Mocha Grey colour options.
It will go on sale in April but there is no word on the pricing.

This ‘wristband’ form factor is a lot better than the Galaxy Gear, which looks like one of those cheap Chinese digital watches that was all the rage back in the eighties.
