Aircel logoTelecom operator Aircel is reportedly planning to launch self-branded Android smartphones in the country. The company is following in the footsteps of the likes of Idea Cellular and MTS, which already sell self-branded Android phones.

According to a report in The Mobile Indian, Aircel will be introducing its smartphone range next month and will provide bundled exclusive data offers to make its smartphones more enticing. An Aircel executive told TMI that its smartphones will be released in various price-brackets.

No other details are currently available about these phones but we hope to hear more soon.

Reliance Jio gets DoT nod for Universal Telecom Licence

In other developments from Indian telecom industry, Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Jio is on its way to become the real 4G service provider in the country as it has got DoT nod for Universal Telecom Licence to provide voice-calling service as well.

With this license, the company will be provide not-only 4G data services on its LTE network but also voice-calling services, which means we can expect 4G smartphones and more as soon as Reliance Jio decides to launch its 4G services. (source)

Airtel has also reportedly been testing voice over 4G services but there has been no news on their front, they currently offer one 4G smartphone, in which they use ‘Circuit Switched Fallback.’ In this approach, LTE just provides data services, and when a voice call is to be initiated or received, it will fall back to the circuit switched domain.
