LG has taken the wraps of a waterproof variant of Optimus G smartphone in Taiwan. Dubbed as Optimus GJ, the phone will go on sale next month for NT$17,990 (US$600).
Expected to compete with Sony’s recently announced Xperia ZR, which is also waterproof, Optimus GJ can stay underwater for 30 minutes up to 1 meter of depth.
The specifications of the phone are almost same as Optimus G; the phone packs 4.7 inch IPS HD display, 13MP rear camera, 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, MicroSD card slot, and 2,280 mAh battery.
There is no word on whether the phone will be released in other markets or not.
LG clearly seems to be capitalizing on the Optimus G brand value, which has been the company’s most successful Android smartphone. It has already launched similar-branded variants of the phone including Optimus GK and Optimus G Pro.
It is also expected to release the successor to Optimus G in the form of Optimus G2 in August this year.
