Is Samsung working on fingerprint scanning tech for Galaxy smartphones?

Samsung FingerprintSamsung is reportedly working on some kind of fingerprint scanning technology for Galaxy smartphones. Files uncovered in the recently leaked Galaxy S III Android 4.2.2 firmware include a number of icons and graphics pertaining to a fingerprint-related feature.

There are no details available right now, but the presence of these graphics indicates that Samsung is indeed working on something related to fingerprint technology and it will probably be integrated in the home button of the smartphones.

This is not a first for Android devices, Motorola’s Atrix smartphone came with a fingerprint scanner and some Japan-only Android devices like Fujitsu F-10D also come with fingerprint scanning hardware.

This development is particularly interesting in the wake of the rumours about Apple working on some fingerprint tech for a future iPhone. In the last few quarters, Samsung has emerged as formidable rival to the Cupertino-based giant.Samsung fingerprint
