After teasing the Clover Trail platform at CES, Intel has now officially taken the wraps of this chip platform at MWC 2013. Intel claims that Clover Trail+ will bring industry-leading performance with low-power and long battery life to Android smartphones.
“The platform’s 32nm dual core Intel Atom Processors – Z2580, Z2560, Z2520- are available in speeds up to 2.0 GHz, 1.6 GHz and 1.2GHz, respectively. The processor also features support for Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, supporting four simultaneous application threads and further enhancing the overall efficiency of the Atom cores,” Intel noted in a press release.
The Clover Trail+ processors also include Intel Graphics Media Accelerator engine with a graphics core supporting up to 533MHz.
The new Clover Trail+ chips support:
- Upto 16MP camera sensors
- Real-time face detection
- 15 frame-per-second burst mode for 8 megapixel photos
- WUXGA display of 1900x1200p
- Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean)
- Intel Wireless Display Technology
- HSPA+ at 42Mbps with the Intel XMM 6360 slim modem solution
- UltraViolet Common File Format
Asus, Lenovo and ZTE will be building Android smartphones and tablets based on the new Intel Clover Trail+ platform. We have already seen Lenovo IdeaPhone K900, which will the first smartphone to be powered by the new Atom Z2580 chip and will be released in Q2 .
Intel also revealed that it will be releasing new 22nm smartphone Atom SoC (“Merrifield”) later this year, which will provide increased smartphone performance, power efficiency and battery life.
