HTC announced its new flagship Android smartphone HTC One at a press event late yesterday. The smartphone will be available beginning mid-March in US and UK.  Not only HTC One packs state of the art hardware specifications, HTC has also included several new software features that would useful to the consumers.

In this post, we will be taking a look at all the new software customizations that HTC has brought in as a part of Sense 5.0.

Starting with the new button layout on the smartphone, HTC thought that thee three button layout was overkill so it has killed the multi-tasking button in HTC One. The smartphone comes with only two buttons – Home and Back. To access ‘Google Now,’ you will have to long-press Home Button, and if you want multi-tasking menu, double-tap the home button.

Coming to Sense 5.0, the new Sense UI might be quite different from the earlier versions but HTC in no way going for stock Android experience. Company has used Robota font, Holo-style apps, but that is about all the stock experience you are going to get.

One of the biggest changes in Sense 5 is the new default home-screen in the form of Blinkfeed. It is more like a widgetised Flipboard app, which presents users’ social feed, content from favourite sources in clean and image-heavy interface, which can be scrolled up and down. Out of the box, you will be getting only one more home-screen, however you can add more. You can read more about Blinkfeed in this post.

Company has changed the default layout of the app tray, which now shows app icons in 3×4 grid instead of the usual 4×5, there is still an option to revert to the old style if you want.  HTC has also revamped the music player and it now includes a visualizer, and lyrics scroller.

To help you control your television right from your smartphone, HTC has included an IR Blaster on your phone along with the new Sense TV app, which is a universal remote control with program guide. You can control your television or set top box from the app.

HTC has also included something called Sense Voice, which boosts call volume and quality in noisy environments.

Another important part of HTC’s new One smartphone is its new Ultrapixel camera and something called Zoe. Zoe gives people the ability to shoot high-res photos that come to life in three-second snippets.  It also automatically creates integrated highlight films from each event comprised of Zoes, photos and videos set to music with professionally designed cuts, transitions and effects.

Sense 5.0 also include the usual Sense goodies like Get Started, Sync Manager, Cloud Backup and more. Overall, HTC has really put in a lot of work in HTC One and Sense 5.0. We are looking forward to grabbing the smartphone when it launches in India around March-end.
