US Department of Justice is likely to clear the Google-Motorola deal, stated WSJ citing sources familiar with the matter. This clearance could come as early as next week, giving Google a hardware company as well as thousands of wireless technology patents.

On the other hand, European Union regulators are also scheduled to rule on the acquisition. They would either clear the deal or open an in-depth enquiry, which can take upto 90 days.

These approvals are very necessary for the Google-Motorola deal and any issues will hinder the acquisition.
