Canada based Datawind is looking to sell over 15 million units of the ultra-cheap tablet Aakash this year, reported ZeeNews.com. According to the website, company hopes that Ministry of Human Resources and Development will buy around 10 million of Akash from the company.

Along with these government orders, Datawind also plans to retail the tablet in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Thailand and Panama. There is no word on how company is planning to manufacturer such a large number of tablets, as it currently has only one unit in Secunderabad assembling the tab.

Although it plans to establish three more factories in Cochin, Noida and Hyderabad, but they won’t be in place at-least until April. Company already has 1.4 million orders of the tablet, most of which remain un-fulfilled.

Datawind seems to be enjoying all the media attention but hasn’t really showed any real promise. We hope that company gets back on track soon, so that students can finally get what they had been promised about 20 months ago.
