Aakash available online, upgraded version coming next month

Indian Government’s much touted Aakash Android tablet might not be reaching schools or colleges but it has become available online. Being sold by Datawind on stupid looking website, that does not even give the feel of authenticity, Aakash can be ordered by giving out your shipping details and apparently it is will reach you within seven days and you will be able to pay cash at delivery.

Yes, cash on delivery that is the only part because of which we are reporting this news. Otherwise we did not want our readers to get duped by a website which has collage of stolen press images as its header and one of the images is of an old prototype.

Anyways back to the story, TOI is reporting that Datawind is working on an upgraded version of its Aaksh’s commercial version Ubislate 7 that will come with a 700MHz processor and rest of the specs ae expected to remain the same.

“We have put up on sale about 30,000 tablets online, which will have cash on delivery of 7 days. We have achieved pre-sale orders of about 400,000 tablets from individuals and corporates. But current supplies will only be limited for individual buyers,” Datawind CEO Suneet Singh Tuli told TOI.

There is no word on when Indian Government is actually going to give out Aakash to the students, as it has only procured 10,000 tablets from the manufacturer, rest are still lying in the warehouses.
