McAfee has announced that the number of malwares targeting Android devices has increased considerably in the last quarter.

“The rapid rise in Android malware in Q2 indicates that the platform could become an increasing target for cybercriminals,” McAfee said. “This year we have seen record breaking numbers of malware, especially on mobile devices, where the uptick is in direct correlation to popularity,” McAfee added.

Till the last quarter Symbian was the favorite target of malware devs, but Android crossed it after seeing 76% jump in the number of malwares targeting it.

Some of the Android malwares last seen were Android/Geinimi, Android/DRAD, Android/DNightmare, and Android/HippoSMS.
