Motorola might have dumped a decent Milestone XT720 without any update, but it seems XT720 users can still have some hope. An XDA member Dexter has released a custom ROM with Android 2.2.1 for the phone.
Using this ROM is pretty easy and the current version is stable enough for use apart from some bugs.
