Keep your fingers crossed to witness the launch of two HTC-Facebook branded smartphones at the Mobile World Congress next month. Reported first by City AM, the smartphones will run modified versions of Android and supporting Facebook voice calls and IMs.
The high-end smartphones will be the pioneer in using Facebook branding and colours and will prominently display users’ Facebook messages and news feed on the home screen.
Industry whiz think of this move as an attempt by Facebook to maintain its position as the world’s leading social network.
Facebook’s Joe Hewitt (who worked on the Firefox web browser) and Matthew Papakipos (a leading member of the Google Chrome browser team) are expected to be behind the launch.
We have also heard about the possible Facebook phones from INQ, so we might see a flurry of Facebook integrated phones at MWC 2011.
Personally, I wouldn’t buy a Facebook phone but I would be interested to see how it would work because as far as I’m concerned, Facebook sucks on all mobile platforms. Yes….. iOS included.
