If you see back in 3Q, 2009, the scene is entirely different, Android has just started to grow with meager 3.5% global share and iOS and Symbian leading with 17% and 45% share respectively. But come one year later in 3Q, 2011, Android has crossed even the wildest expectations and became the only OS to increase its market share in last one year and that too astronomically with a almost 22% rise.

On the other side, while HTC, Motorola and Samsung along with several other manufacturers tried to lead the Android war, Samsung came out strongly in the 3Q 2010, to become the largest Android phone maker, and most of the credit goes to its much successful Galaxy S smartphone, which recently sold 7 mn unit globally and 3 mn in US alone.
