Australian online cell phone retailer Mobicity has started taking pre-orders for unlocked HTC Desire HD Android smartphone. It is being sold for $869 on the website, with the expected shipping in first week of Oct.
Dell Streak to go on sale in Australia from Oct 1
Dell has announced that its first Android tablet attempt, Streak will go on sale in Australia from October 1.
Optus will be the exclusive carrier for the tablet cum smartphone, which will be powered by Android 1.6 on launch, while an update is already in the pipeline. However, Streak is only exclusive for three months, after that it can be sold with any carrier.
HTC to launch Aria in Australia next week
HTC is all ready to launch Aria in the Australian market. Though the model is already available in the US since last June, Australians will able to own it only next week.
HTC Aria is similar to Wildfire in terms of touch control home, menu, back and search buttons and features the same general hardware as the HTC Legend.

Acer launches five Android phones in Australia
Acer has launched a slew of Android smartphones in Australia today. These smartphones include Acer beTouch E120 and E130, Liquid E, Liquid E Ferrari Special Edition, and Acer Stream.
As, Acer has not partnered with any carriers for the local launch, so all the smartphones will be available unlocked & as outright purchase.

Optus brings SE Xperia X10 Mini to Australia

Optus is increasing its Android offerings in Australia. After the X10 release, it look like they have already started offering Xperia X10 Mini. A listing on their website states that X10 Mini is available on the Optus Personal Mobile Store and plans range from $19 to $99 on the “yes” social, $19 to $79 on the “yes” cap and $99 to $129 on the Timeless Max. All plans come with a credit bonus of $50 to $100 if purchased online through the Optus store.
Optus To Sell Garmin-Asus A10 from June 7
Optus has announced that the Garmin-Asus A10 smartphone will be available to its customers from 7 June. This Garmin phone comes with with a powered audio windscreen mount that magnifies the volume of the device’s voice commands and any incoming calls. Detailed maps are also preloaded on the A10 so that customers can receive turn-by-turn, voice-prompted navigation.

The Garmin-Asus A10 is available to consumers for $0 Upfront on the ‘yes’ Social $29 plan over 24 months (including 200MB of data per month) and to small business customers for $0 Upfront on the ‘yes’ Business Complete $49 plan over 24 months (including 500MB^ of data per month).
HTC Shows Telstra New 1.5GHz Snapdragon Smartphone With Android 2.2
Channel News is reporting that Telstra executives were been shown a new HTC Android phone running the new Qualcomm 1.5GHz Snapdragon chip and a beta version of the new Android 2.2 operating system at CES this year .
The phone, which will go on sale in Australia later this year, is significantly faster than than the iPhone.
Capable of delivering 4G connectivity the new phone has caught the attention of Seven Network executives, who are working on the roll out of a new WiMax network in Australia.
AndroidSpin also reporting the existence for one such Android 2.2 powered phone which will be allegedly called HTC Scorpion.
Optus HTC Dream owner to get cupcake update soon
IF you’re one of the few Aussies with an Android phone, you will not have to wait to long to get Android Cupcake update.
At Gizmodo, Nick reports how one enterprising reader, Daniel, hassled Optus via Twitter about when Cupcake could be expected on his HTC Dream, and eventually got told that updates would begin rolling out in late July. Nick’s apparent cynicism about whether that will be immediately effective is justified — getting updates to actually appear on mobile phones often takes time, as Vodafone can attest on a quite different platform — but at least there’s a plan in place.
