Xiaomi Redmi 2After a successful launch of Mi 4 in India, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is getting ready to release a new smartphone in the country. The company recently began teasing the upcoming smartphone on social media and its website.

Although the company has not explicitly mentioned the smartphone name, it seems to be Redmi 2 as the company has discontinued Redmi 1S and it needs a replacement.

As per a contest being run by Xiaomi, we will see the launch of the new smartphone on March 12 in the country and the company is offering the contest winners priority passes for the first flash sale.

To remind you, Redmi 2 was originally unveiled on January 4, 2015 in China and comes with specifications like 4.7-inch 1280x720p HD display, 1GB of RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor, and Android 4.4-based MIUI 6.0.

The phone also packs 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, dual-SIM support, and 2200 mAh battery. In addition, Xiaomi has included 4G LTE, 8MP f2.2 rear camera with BSI sensor, and 2MP front shooter in the Redmi 2 smartphone. It is important to note here that Redmi 2 has also got an enahnced version in China, which includes 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. While it is unlikely that we will get the enhanced version in India, but if we do, Redmi 2 will once again become the king of affordable smartphones in the country,

If Xiaomi launches the 1GB RAM version in the country, the pricing of Redmi 2 is likely to remain same as the Redmi 1S, which used to retail for INR 5,999, else with 2GB version, we expect to see a price bump to INR 6,999.
