Acer unveils C720 Chromebook in India for INR 22,999

Acer Chromebook C720Acer today became one of the first Chrome OS partners to launch a Chromebook in the Indian market. The company has unveiled its latest C720 Chromebook in the country and it will be available in the coming days for INR 22,999.

Acer has also partnered with Airtel and Tikona to bundle data packages with the Chromebook for interested buyers. We will talk about these data packages later in the post.

As we detailed in our Acer C720 announcement report, the C720 Chromebook is powered by the 1.4GHz Intel Celeron 2955U processor based on Haswell micro-architecture. It comes with 2GB of RAM, 16GB SSD storage, Wi-Fi and 11.6-inch display with 1366×768 resolution.

The device also packs HD webcam, a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, HDMI port and a SD card reader.

“The Acer C720 is a significant step forward for our highly-acclaimed Acer Chromebook line, as it delivers speedy performance, quick boot times, a matte anti-glare display and a slimmer design that is portable enough for anywhere use,” said S Rajendran, chief marketing officer at Acer India.

According to Acer, the C720 Chromebook will be available from select Reliance Digital and Croma stores in Delhi and Mumbai from October 17. You can pre-order it today from Flipkart.

Coming to the data packages, Acer C720 buyers can choose one of the following packages if they want with their purchase and not every data offer is available at all locations.

  • For INR 2,499: Free Airtel 4G data card worth INR 1500 with monthly free 10 GB data for 2 months
  • For INR 1,299: Airtel 3G data card worth INR 1299 with monthly free 6 GB data for 3 months
  • For INR 3,499: 4 Mbps Tikona home broadband connection with 100 GB data with a validity of 20 months
  • For INR 4,999: Above Tikona plan with a free Wi-Fi Router

For those of you who are unaware of Chromebooks, Chromebooks are laptops, which run on Google’s Chrome OS – an operating system based on Chrome browser. As there are a very few native apps, Chromebook owners need to have always on data connection to effectively use the device and HTML5 apps.  These are not meant for heavy-duty tasks and are just capable of basic computing stuff like internet use, office document handling (using Google Drive/ Docs) and media streaming/ playback.
