Gionee Elife S7Chinese smartphone maker Gionee on Saturday unveiled the new Elife S7 smartphone in the Indian market at a press event in Hyderabad. With just 5.5mm thickness, Elife S7 is one of the company’s thinnest smartphones till date and is only thicker than the Gionee Elife S5.1, which was released in 2014.

“We believe ELIFE S7 will evolve the future of slim smartphones to the next level which will pack a perfect mix of looks and exceptional performance. Putting in effort to make slimmer phones and compromising on performance will eventually be futile. We are focusing on bringing a new dimension of user experience and offer more features to the consumers,” said William Lu, President of Gionee.

Originally showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March this year, Elife S7 sports an aluminum magnesium alloy unibody design with Gorilla Glass on both front and back. It features a 5.2-inch full HD Super AMOLED display and is powered by 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 processor.

The smartphone also comes with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, dual-SIM support, 4G LTE, and 2700 mAh battery. It runs on Android 5.0 with Amigo 3.0 UI and packs the company’s new software enhancements like Extreme mode, which activates when your smartphone hits 10 percent battery mark. The S7 can last upto 33 hours in Extreme mode. Other software tweaks in the phone include Magic Focus and Chameleon (theming engine).

On the imaging front, the Gionee smartphone features a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP front shooter.

Gionee Elife S7 has been priced at INR 24,999 and will be released in Blue, White and Black colour options. We are waiting for availability details and will update the post as soon as we get them.

Make in India and investment in India

In related news, Gionee also revealed that it will be participating in the Make in India initiative of the government and produce devices in the country. It will be investing in India to set-up manufacturing units for not just for domestic consumption, but export as well. The company is hoping to use India as the export hub for SAARC region as well as Africa.

“The ELIFE S5.5 & S5.1 witnessed huge acceptance amongst Indian consumers and we are certain that the S7 will create its own benchmark. Gionee has been setting high standards in various aspects and believes in giving the consumers better than the best. Having sold over 4 million devices in India our smartphones are a manifest of our in-depth R&D, design expertise and manufacturing ability. 2015 Gionee will be expanding its India wing to imitate the manufacturing here in India and we believe this will add a sensational dimension to our profile,” said Arvind.R.Vohra, Country CEO & MD – Gionee India.

  1. This is stupidity. 16GB memory without any way to expand it. If they are skipping microSD card slot, get a 32GB version with a small premium. 16GB means around 15GB is usable memory of which system will eat away 3GB. another 2GB by skins, bloatwares, etc. So you get 10GB, at best. Thats like 2/3 of the memory.

Memory price has fallen so much that for like 1.5-2k more, Gionee could offer a 32GB version but you know what? They won’t.
