Google to release Play Store update with material design changes: Report

Play Store revampGoogle is reporting working on a revamped version of the Google Play device client (Play Store), which will bring the store in sync with Google’s new material design initiative. The material design was first showcased at Google I/O 2014.

According to a report in Android Police, the material design inspired Play Store is currently under testing at Google and will be rolled-out in the coming weeks or months. The final design is still unclear but the blog has got hold of a test version of the revamped Play Store, which gives us an idea of how much change is to be expected.

As you can see, the Play Store listings are more immersive and colourful in the test version. Also, Google seems be focusing more on the hero image, promo videos and other promotional material that are the highlight of any app, movie or music. The additional information including even screenshots have taken a back-seat and will be visible only after a scroll or two. The additional information has also seen some changes and is now cleaner and uses plenty of white space. Also, the background of the listing pages has been changed to white from light grey.

  1. Gaurav, Users can comment only after this gets rolled out. Is Material Design available for non-Android L versions?
