Samsung’s rumoured Gear 2 Solo smartwatch is expected to be released in June or July, reports The Wall Street Journal citing people familiar with the company’s plans.

First revealed back in March this year by Samsung Gear 2 Solo listing

Set to be powered by the company’s TIzen operating system, the smartwatch will allow the consumers to receive and make calls directly from the watch without pairing with a smartphone, something which is uncommon in the smartwatch space.

According to WSJ, the smartwatch cum smartphone will also allow the users to take photos, send emails and include GPS, Bluetooth and a heart monitor. It is unclear whether Samsung will be bundling a Bluetooth set for making calls or the consumers will be talking directly in the smartwatch.

As per a previous report, Samsung will be partnering with SK Telecom in South Korea to release the watch, where it is expected to be exclusively available for some time but WSJ notes that Samsung is also in talks with carriers in US and Europe to launch the device.

To remind you, Samsung currently retails four wearables worldwide including Galaxy Gear, Gear 2 and Gear Fit.
