Intex introduces budget Android smartphone with QWERTY keyboard for INR 4,990

Intex Aqua QWERTYIntex has unveiled a new budget smartphone today and it is the first Android phone with a QWERTY keyboard that we have seen in a while. Priced at an affordable INR 4,990, the new Intex Aqua QWERTY comes with entry-level specifications.

With this smartphone, Intex wants to tap the consumers, who prefer QWERTY keyboard on their phones rather than virtual ones, which have become commonplace these days. Android phones with QWERTY keyboard are hard to find and the company is betting on the same.

“Aqua QWERTY is one such product which offers the convenience of both touch and type features for users who are QWERTY lovers but wish to explore the touch experience at the same time. We have stepped into the QWERTY keypad smartphone segment after a lot of market research, and we believe that the Aqua QWERTY will be a vehicle of smartphone adoption in the highly untapped segment of women smartphone users in India, also meeting the needs of professionals who want to send error-free texts, without stressing too much on switching the keypad between signs, symbols, numbers and alphabets,” said Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, Business Head, Mobile, Intex.

Coming to the specifications, Intex Aqua QWERTY features a 3.5-inch HVGA display, dual-SIM support, Android 4.2.2 and 512MB of RAM. The phone also comes with 3G support, 5MP rear camera, 0.3MP front camera, and 1500 mAh battery.

The smartphone is powered by 1.2GHz dual-core processor and includes microSD card slot. Interestingly, the specifications are quite decent for the given price-tag, however we would have liked better display resolution.

Intex Aqua QWERTY will go on sale in the coming days.

In related news, Intex is expected to launch another budget Android smartphone in the form of Cloud Y10. The smartphone is currently listed on the company website as “Coming Soon” and features 4-inch WVGA display, Android 4.2.2, 1GHz dual-core processor and 2MP rear camera.
