HTC Desire 616 leaked, a 5-inch phone with octa-core processor
HTC is working on a new mid-range Android smartphone, which will come with MediaTek’s true octa-core processor. This smartphone, which will be dubbed as Desire 616, was spotted in Chinese telecom regulator TENAA database.
The regulator website has revealed the key specifications of the phone but details about pricing and availability are still unclear.
According to TENAA, HTC Desire616 will come with a 5-inch IPS HD display, Android 4.2.2, 1GB of RAM and 1.7GHz MediaTek octa-core processor. The phone will also pack 8MP rear camera, 3G, microSD card slot and the usual connectivity options.
The TENAA listing also reveals that HTC will launch the smartphone in multiple colour options including Black, Blue, White, Red, and Yellow.
This is not the first time that we are hearing about HTC’s octa-core processor phone, it was also leaked in January this year but with slightly different specifications.
HTC hopes to achieve 10 percent smartphone market share
HTC might have slipped out of the top-ten smartphone manufacturers but the company is not losing hope for a great return. HTC CEO Peter Chou revealed at the HTC One (M8) New York press event that he is holding out hope to grab 8-10 percent of the smartphone market share in ‘long term’.
Chou did not specify a time frame for achieving this goal but noted that it is a critical issue for the company.
If HTC really wants to get back in the game, it will have to focus on all price-segments and stop acting like a ultra-premium brand and price its products reasonably.
