Sony launches Xperia Transfer in Google Play
Updates Xperia Gallery with support for KitKat
Sony has released its Xperia Transfer app in Google Play to make switching from other Android smartphones or iPhone a breeze. The Xperia Transfer is already available as a part of PC Companion and Bridge for Mac softwares, which needs a little more effort while transferring content from one smartphone to another.
According to Sony, Xperia Transfer can transfer contacts, calendar entries, SMS, MMS, Bookmarks, notes, photos, music, videos and even apps to your swanky new Xperia smartphone from your old Android and iPhone. In case some applications from your iPhone are not present in Google Play, Xperia Transfer will suggest alternatives.
Sony adds that iPhone users will need Xperia Transfer Cable to get their content from iPhone. Details about this cable are a little sketchy, however Sony has revealed that this cable will come bundled with Sony Xperia Z1 Compact kits in select markets. You won’t need any such cable while switching from an Android smartphone.
On the downside, the Xperia Transfer Android app doesn’t work with Windows Phone or BlackBerry devices, users of which will need to stick to the Xperia Transfer version present in PC Companion and Sony Bridge for Mac.
Sony isn’t the only Android manufacturer offering a quick and easy way to switch to their smartphone, Motorola, HTC and Samsung also have such tools.
