Nexus 5 Android 4.4 OTA updateGoogle has finally started rolling-out Android 4.4 over-the-air update for Nexus 4 smartphone. This update takes your Nexus 4 from Android 4.3 to Android 4.4 KRT16S build.

Around 239MB in size, the update will automatically reach your smartphone. You can also manually check for the update by going to Settings < About Phone < Software updates.

It is important to note here that all updates are released in phases, so not everyone will get the update right-away and it might take days to appear on your device.

To remind you, Android 4.4 brings several UI improvements, cloud print support, better multi-tasking, and more. You can check out the key features of Android 4.4 here.

We will update the post once we get hold of the OTA URLs.

  1. Is the new Android 4.4 Kitkat available for Nexus 4 in India? I have a Nexus 4 but the OS is still 4.3.

  2. Folks, you need not wait for an OTA for your Nexus 4. You can get the Factory Image of 4.4 from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images and flash it. However, please know that the 4.4 for Nexus 4 is a ‘slimmed down’ version of what runs Nexus 5. Explanation given below:

“The Nexus 5 was fitted with Qualcomm’s popular Snapdragon 800 CPU that is rated at 2.26 GHz, while the Nexus 4 sports the Snapdragon 800’s little cousin, the S4 Pro. Huge power difference that was necessary for the nexus 5 so it could sport the brand new Android Kit-Kat mobile OS. While Nexus 4 is getting an upgrade to Kit-Kat, it is getting an entirely different version that’s been slimmed down for the Nexus 4’s not 64-bit CPU.”

    1. Where ever you found that so called info you can ignore it. It’s not true. First of all the Snapdragon 800 is not a 64bit cpu. It’s a 32bit cpu the same as the S4 Pro. Second Kit-kat is the same no matcher what device its on. They change the drivers, change some code to make some of the stuff work. But they don’t change the software architecture. At least not yet since there are no 64 bit cpu for android to run on. Only 64 bit one is in the Iphone5s. And even there its not that big deal, the biggest difference between 64 and 32 bit is the amount of RAM memory you can address (maximum amount of ram the phone/computer can have).

O yea almost forgot have you looked at the change log for kit-kat? If not take a lock here.

Short info about 64 vs 32 bit computers (sure its old since computers did the swap some time ago but this is where the cellphones are coming now)

      1. same here, my phone was bought in US too. It seems we have to wait a little longer.

Has anyone got OTA update and tried voice navigation on Google Now?

  3. When you say ‘slimmed down’ what exactly does it lack from the one which is provided with Nexus 5?
I hope we didn’t run into issues after upgrade like few of us had after upgrading to 4.3
