As promised, Motorola today took the wraps of its Moto G smartphone. With Moto G, the company is aiming for the huge entry-level smartphone market, which is currently filled with re-branded OEM phones and low-spec’ed devices from companies like Samsung and LG.
“Our mission is to connect millions of people to the world’s information… with mobile devices that don’t compromise,” said Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside while introducing Moto G.
Coming to the smartphone details, Moto G features 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, 4.5-inch 720p display with Gorilla Glass, 1GB of RAM, and 5MP rear camera. It also packs 1.3MP front camera, and 2070 mAh battery. The phone runs on Android 4.3 at launch but Motorola is promising guaranteed update to Android 4.4 KitKat, which will be released in January 2014.
According to Motorola, Moto G goes on sale this week in Brazil and parts of Europe and will be available within the next few weeks throughout Latin America, Europe, Canada and parts of Asia. The phone will be launched in the US, India, the Middle East and more of Asia in early January.
On the pricing front, Moto G will cost just $179 (8GB) and $199 (16GB) without contract in US but the pricing for other markets is unclear right now and will most probably be similar to the aggressive US pricing.
Motorola has also stated that it will be launching a dual-SIM Moto G in some markets but did not specify further.
Customization: Support for interchangeable Motorola Shells and Flip Shells in seven colors as well as Grip Shells in five colors.
Goodies: Moto G comes with 50GB of free Google Drive storage for two years.
