Canonical seeks $32 million on Indiegogo to build it
Canonical has announced the first Ubuntu smartphone. Dubbed as Ubuntu Edge, the phone is a very interesting piece of device. Almost everything about the phone is something that you don’t normally see.
First, Canonical wants to raise $32 million (21.5 million pounds) on Indiegogo to build this smartphone. Yes, you read it right. The company is asking prospective consumers to put in money for it to make an Ubuntu phone and it is hoping to do it in 31 days. At the time of writing this post, it had already raised over $160,000.
“In the car industry, Formula 1 provides a commercial testbed for cutting-edge technologies. The Ubuntu Edge project aims to do the same for the mobile phone industry — to provide a low-volume, high-technology platform, crowdfunded by enthusiasts and mobile computing professionals,” Canonical writes in Indiegogo listing.
You can put in $600 today to reserve an Ubuntu Edge unit for yourself, which will otherwise cost $830 starting tomorrow. For so much money, you will get a 4.5-inch display totting smartphone that can run on both Ubuntu Touch and Android and packs 128GB of storage, 4GB of RAM and LTE support. The phone goes on sale in May 2014.

lol, do you think Samsung will ever sell their S4 for $200? $600 is perfectly reasonable price for a phone with this specs
cutting edge technology would love to fund it, if i can make a long time investment on my next phone! would be interesting to hold a hardware which is way ahead of time. need more projects like this for new horizon of latest and bold cutting edge tech of future.
