After announcing that it is going to close down Tweetdeck for Android, AIR and iPhone last month, Twitter has now fixed an execution date. Tweetdeck for Android along with Adobe AIR version and iPhone app will cease to exist in the respective app stores on May 7. The apps will not only be removed from app stores, but they will also stop functioning.
Twitter is trying to move users from Tweetdeck to its official Twitter apps for a long time and it is now ready to take the final step.
“TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for Android and TweetDeck for iPhone will be removed from their respective app stores and will stop functioning on May 7. Our Facebook integration will also stop on May 7,” Tweetdeck team noted in an update on the official blog.
The Tweetdeck web app, Chrome app along with apps for Mac and PC will continue to function.
“Over the past few years, we’ve seen a steady trend towards people using TweetDeck on their computers and Twitter on their mobile devices. This trend coincides with an increased investment in Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android –– adding photo filters and other editing capabilities, revamping user profiles and enhancing search. That said, we know this applies to most of our users –– not all of them. And for those of you who are inconvenienced by this shift, our sincere apologies,” Tweedeck team noted in the original post.
