Samsung Galaxy Young duos or LG Optimus L3 II dual, which to choose?

Samsung and LG have started selling two new entry-level Android smartphones in the country in the last 24 hours. Running on Android 4.1, both LG Optimus L3 II dual and Samsung Galaxy Young Duos come with dual-SIM connectivity.

Samsung Galaxy Young Duos and LG Optimus L3 II  dual, both the phones sport a 3.2-inch display, but it is the resolution that makes the difference. While LG Optimus L3 II dual packs QVGA (240x320p) resolution, Samsung Galaxy Young has a better HVGA (320x480p) resolution on-board.

The LG phone however comes with an IPS panel, which are normally better in viewing angles than normal TFT panel, so this is one positive for the LG Optimus L3 II dual. But, if we have to take a call overall, Samsung Galaxy Young Duos would score more points, considering the resolution, as it is going to play a bigger role in your daily usage.

Processor/ RAM

In terms of the chips inside, Samsung has included Broadcom’s 1GHz BCM21654G Cortex-A9 processor with BCM21654 Videocore IV GPU. On the other hand, LG packs a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM7225A Cortex A5 processor with Adreno 200 GPU in L3 II dual.  Although, Cortex A5 processors are more power-efficient, they are considered slightly slower than A9 in terms of performance.

On the RAM front, LG has included 512MB of RAM; Samsung has put in 768MB of RAM. So overall, Samsung also scores more in the processor department, the extra RAM will certainly help in smoother performance for Galaxy Young.

Camera

Both phones come only with a 3.15MP rear camera, and there are no secondary cameras on-board. There is no auto or touch focus support or LED flash on these devices, so unless there is some cool optics based difference between these devices, we are likely to see similar results.

Battery

This is one area, where LG performs better thanks to the 1540 mAh battery on-board. Samsung has just included a 1,300 mAh battery, which along with A9 processor and more display resolution will result in worse battery backup than LG Optimus L3 dual.

Pricing/ Value for money

At the writing this post, LG Optimus L3 II dual was selling online for INR 7,899, while Samsung Galaxy Young duos was available for INR 8,290. Not much difference between the prices, but if we see the features overall, the Samsung Galaxy Young does seem like a better product than LG’s Optimus L3 II dual. Samsung also has better software update track record than LG, which will surely matter if any of the companies ever think of providing software updates for these phones.
